Neon lights glow through the science of excited atoms. When electricity passes through a sealed tube of neon gas, electrons jump to higher energy levels. As they return, they release energy as vibrant light, creating dazzling displays in cities worldwide.

About Me

Cordell Jones is a multi-media journalist based in Florida, writing about all things within the world, big or small.

Born and raised in Miramar, Florida, my work has always centered on my cultural upbringing within the Sunshine State. Finding a passion for writing at a young age, through reading and writing fictional stories, poetry, and film scripts, has always made writing an outlet for me. Coming into my undergraduate career at Florida A&M University, after writing a freelance article with the FAMUAN, I learned that this passion of mine can become an outlet and a way to cover stories often not covered by the publications I interact with. During my undergraduate career, I’ve had the pleasure of writing over 40 articles for campus publications and securing articles with notable publications such as Essence Magazine, Scalawag Magazine, and others. In 2025, I had the pleasure of working with The Miami Herald as a consumer reporting intern through the McClatchy HBCU News internship, covering a range of topics including business, tourism, health, and retail in South Florida. Additionally, I’ve written with the Miami Times as an arts and culture contributor as well as Ebony Magazine. Outside of writing, I am passionate about video editing and production, DJ’ing, video games, internet culture, fashion, and podcasting.
